Real Journeys summer season starts in August /September each year, we start recruiting for our seasonal positions in June/July.
The season generally runs from August through to April/May each year. Rosters and days of work will depend on what position you apply for.
Paid training will commence for overnight positions in August, with most other positions training will commence in September.
Your position description will provide you with everything you need to know about your job expectations. We also encourage you to ask us questions during the interview process.
We also have a comprehensive on boarding and induction programme that will prepare you for your remarkable season with Real Journeys. We will provide you with specific training to give you the best possible start with us.
We will offer continued support throughout the entire season.
You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand. You will be required to verify your eligibility to work in New Zealand by providing us with a valid work visa and a copy of your passport.
Real Journeys does not apply for work visas for our seasonal positions.
There are some exceptions, where we do apply for work visas for specialise roles: Stoker/Boiler, Language Guides, etc.

No, we will only consider applications from people that have a valid visa for the entirety of the season.
It is our preference to hire people that are able to attend our pre-season training sessions, however we understand that this is not always possible and there are often time where we may require additional staffing after the season has commenced.

Yes absolutely, depending on your job, we offer on job training for most of our seasonal roles.
Yes, most of our seasonal positions will require you to work on a roster system, where you will be required to work weekends, public holidays and on occasion evenings.
Depending on your location, we offer the following transport to employees:
All non-overnight staff can catch a complimentary Shuttle bus to and from work daily from the front of the Real Journeys Camp, Roadside.
All overnight staff members are provided complimentary transport to and from Te Anau & Milford when they start and finish their shifts.
Overnight staff, are provided with connections (lake boat and coach over pass) from Manapouri to Deep Cove and return, when they are due to start and finish their shift. This links to inbound freight starting shift, and outbound travelling with passengers when shift is concluded.
Walter Peak
Walter Peak is situated on the western shores of Lake Wakatipu and access for working staff is either by staff transport vessel or the TSS Earnslaw.
On occasion we will provide ferry transport to and from Bluff & Stewart Island.
Accommodation
If you are working in Milford sound in a non-overnight role, Real Journeys will provide subsidised hostel accommodation.
If you are working in an overnight role, you will be provided on-board accommodation during your 7 day shift, on your 2 days off you will be required to organise your own accommodation.

If you are offered a live in position at Walter Peak, you will be provided with subsidised live-in accommodation.
If you are required to source your own accommodation, we would recommend that you look sooner rather than later, accommodation can get tight during the months of May to November, especially in Queenstown.
Everyone that works in New Zealand is required to pay tax. To do this you will need an Inland Revenue Tax number. To apply for your tax number please visit the IRD website and apply for your tax number prior to commencing employment. www.ird.govt.nz
Please note that you will need to be in the country when you apply for your tax number and it can take up to 10 working days.
Yes all employees that are required to work with the public will be provided with a uniform.
You will be issued with your uniform before your first day of work. When you are issued your uniform you will be required to sign a document acknowledging receipt. We will replace items through wear and tear, but you are liable for replacement of goods.
Your pay will be dependent on the position you are in, all our roles are in line with New Zealand Labour legislation. Our pay cycle is fortnightly (every 2 weeks) and funds are available on Wednesday night.
You will need a NZ Bank account; we are unable to pay your wages into a foreign account.

There is limited cell phone and Wi-Fi coverage in Milford, Doubtful Sound and Walter Peak.
